Elon Musk has shared a new video of Tesla’s humanoid robot design, showing Optimus Gen 2 with updated motion and handling capabilities.

In the clip, the robot is shown walking, balancing and dancing, as well as picking and placing delicate objects such as eggs.

According to the video, the second-generation robot walks 30% faster than its previous iteration and has new sensing capabilities in its fingers to enable more deft handling.

Since its debut in 2021, Optimus has seen several mobility updates. A video update in September showed the robot doing yoga and recognizing its limbs moving in space.

Musk has previously hinted at grand plans for the Optimus robot rollout, saying AI-powered humanoid robots could one day outnumber humans, and that one day Tesla’s robot business could be greater than its automotive.

Optimus was unveiled as an industrial robot, with the goal of “eliminat[ing] dangerous, repetitive, boring tasks.”

An exact timeline for when Optimus will be commercially launched has not yet been announced.
