Wireless network provider Energous has partnered with IoT company Identiv to create a real-time asset tracking solution for the supply chain and logistics industry.

The companies will integrate Identiv’s ID-Pixels tags with Energous’ PowerBridge technology to create precise, real-time asset tracking.

Identiv’s RF tags will measure the temperature and humidity of items in transit, while Energous’ PowerBridge wirelessly sends asset data to operators to help improve performance and operational efficiencies.

The partners said by combining their technologies, they aim to deliver more “reliable, consistent power” than the disposable batteries and charging cables currently used to power IoT sensors across the logistics industry.

In particular, the tech is intended to provide monitoring for perishable or temperature-sensitive items that see significant revenue loss from damaged or spoiled goods.

“For logistics companies carrying temperature-sensitive goods, accurate reporting from IoT sensors is paramount and this can only be accomplished if the sensors are consistently and reliably powered,” said Giampaolo Marino, vice president of marketing and business at Energous. “This partnership … facilitates a constant source of wireless power to each of Identiv’s ID-Pixels tags without the need for additional maintenance.”

“Together, we are developing a wirelessly powered IoT solution that can be deployed within hours instead of days,” said Amir Khoshniyati, Identiv’s vice president. “With no additional hardware costs or specialized training required, logistics companies can save both money and time."
