Aeris has finalized its purchase of Ericsson’s IoT assets, including its Accelerator and Connected Vehicle Cloud business.

Under the deal, Ericsson has also acquired a small stake in Aeris.

The combined businesses create what the companies say is one of the largest “IoT-first” connectivity management service platforms.

“We look forward to integrating the Ericsson IoT and Connected Vehicle businesses to create the new Aeris,” said Marc Jones, Aeris CEO. “We have a long history of bringing intelligent innovation to the IoT space and now have additional talent, technology, and partnerships to bring that innovation to enterprises looking to simplify, secure and scale IoT around the world.

The “new Aeris” business is hoped to serve customers across a wide range of industries including health carecare, fleet, utilities and automotive. In a statement, the companies said the business will work to “safely connect tens of millions of IoT devices and provide intelligent solutions” to accelerate the uptake of IoT technologies.

“Today, Ericsson has closed the transfer of our IoT business to Aeris, creating a leader in the fragmented IoT market,” said Åsa Tamsons, Ericsson’s head of business area technologies. “The joint capabilities bring unprecedented scale, stability, reliability and security to launch and manage IoT programs around the world.

The acquisition was first announced in December at the end of last year, and sparked conversations around IoT vendor behavior and trends.
