China’s Origin Wukong quantum computer has been accessed remotely more than 350,000 times by users from over 60 countries since its debut on January 6, with the U.S. leading in overseas user numbers.

The third generation, domestically-developed superconducting quantum computer is stationed at the Origin Quantum Computing Technology in Anhui Province. According to the Anhui Quantum Computing Engineering Research Center, it has received a total of 37,666 quantum computing tasks from worldwide users of which 33,871 have been successfully completed.

The name Wukong draws inspiration from the mythical figure Sun Wukong, or the Monkey King, who had 72 forms. This symbolism parallels the quantum computer's 72-qubit indigenous superconducting quantum chip, which represents a significant step in China's efforts in developing programmable and deliverable superconducting quantum computing.

Guo Guoping, co-founder of Origin Quantum, the company behind Origin Wukong, emphasized its commitment to borderless scientific exploration.

“US quantum computers are not open to China. But, adhering to the notion of scientific exploration without borders, we are willing to open our services to users around the world, including the US, to jointly promote the concept of quantum computing for the benefit of mankind,” he said.

Despite the U.S.'s restrictions on China's access to certain quantum computing technologies, Origin Quantum said in a statement that it has opened its doors to users worldwide to enhance collaboration and inclusivity in the field of quantum computing.

According to Chinese authorities, Origin Wukong is envisioned as a tool for progress and international cooperation, countering the current climate of technological and geopolitical competition.
