PTC and Rockwell Automation are expanding their collaboration, with a new focus on the adoption of IoT and augmented reality (AR) software by manufacturing companies.

Rockwell Automation will continue to sell PTC's IIoT software, ThingWorx, as well as its AR software Vuforia, which PTC CEO Jim Heppelmann said are instrumental for Rockwell’s manufacturing customers “for use cases such as asset monitoring, predictive maintenance, and quality inspection.”

"Rockwell continues to leverage PTC software as an important component of our global customers' digital manufacturing solutions," said Blake Moret, Rockwell’s CEO.

The announcement comes as part of Rockwell’s wider mission to develop smart manufacturing technologies to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.

Rockwell has already established partnerships with Microsoft and Cisco to develop smart manufacturing technologies. At this year’s Hannover Messe in April, Rockwell presented its edge and cloud computing technologies to bridge the gap between operational technology and informational technology, allowing manufacturers to share data across a supply chain.

“Digital transformation is the most effective way for manufacturing companies to drive change,” said Sachin Mathur, Rockwell’s director of software and control. “It is no longer a nice-to-have: digital transformation is about figuring out exactly what can be done, how it can be done and how it will prove return on investment.”
