Honeywell has added augmented reality (AR) capabilities to its Immersive Field Simulator, a training platform that uses digital twins of physical facilities to provide targeted, on-demand training.

The new feature, called Immersive Equipment Views, is accessible via an iPad-based application.

According to Honeywell, the application incorporates digital features into real-life environments, enabling “meaningful and useful training outside a classroom” that will help enterprises cut costs and provide safe training to employees from anywhere in the field.

Using the new system, users will be able to access real-time information on a site’s assets and operations, as well as educational assets.

The update comes as part of Honeywell’s roadmap to leverage emerging technologies to address workforce issues, as it realigns its portfolio to meet three megatrends: automation, the future of aviation and energy transition.

“As the industry works to recapture decades of lost experience with the retirement of a tenured workforce, Honeywell IFS provides a safe and interactive way to bring the mobile-first generation up to speed,” said Pramesh Maheshwari, Honeywell Process Solutions’ president. “Honeywell is committed to adding value and efficiency to the workforce of our customers and the industry globally.”
