New IoT Service Targets Accelerating Sustainability Goals
Global technology and business solutions provider NTT has launched its IoT Services for Sustainability platform. The new service features environmental monitoring, predictive maintenance, water leak management and OCR meter reading to give businesses insight on how to best reduce their carbon footprint.
The new product suite is supported by the company’s LoRaWAN network and sensors to monitor and drive sustainability objectives.
“IoT technologies are an essential tool in the global fight against climate change,” said Jeff Merritt, head of urban transformation at the World Economic Forum. “We know what actions are needed to build a more sustainable future and have a robust suite of technologies available to help deliver this impact. As the world looks to accelerate the implementation of these solutions, organizations like NTT will have a critical role to play in helping companies and governments capitalize on this opportunity.”
The group’s products enable real-time IoT data on environmental conditions such as air and water pollution and real-time monitoring of a company’s assets such as water or gas meters to identify and preempt problems such as leaks.
The new products are intended to help accelerate progress in achieving the sustainable development goals, and come at a time when digital tools are being increasingly harnessed to help.
“Almost two-thirds of CEOs say they’re aligning business strategies to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Yet only two out of five businesses have the solutions needed to meet the organization’s immediate objectives,” said Devin Yaung, senior vice president of NTT’s group enterprise IoT products and services.
