Avnet is partnering with New Zealand-based Macso Technologies to enhance IoT deployments with advanced AI capabilities.

Macso develops AI models that integrate data from multiple sensor types, making them ideally suitable for Avnet’s IoT technologies.

Avnet will provide hardware, software and engineering services to original equipment manufacturers that feature integrated Macso AI models, providing them with AI-enabled edge devices.

“Masco is making hardware smart by putting AI models on it,” said Saba Samiei, Macsofounder and CEO. “It’s like a CCTV camera directly notifying you if an intruder is going up a flight of stairs instead of watching people and requiring a human to go back and watch a video to make decisions. We are trying to make sensors smart.”

The partnership will initially focus on audio and air quality applications, with plans to expand into other areas such as vision, temperature and pressure sensing.

Macso's AI technologies are designed to work with sensors for remote monitoring operating environments. The company uses proprietary data collection and processing tools to create tailored databases of reference events, coupled with advanced algorithms that filter relevant signals from live data streams, converting them into actionable insights for customers.

Macso’s technology has already been deployed across four continents, with successful applications in animal health monitoring and air quality monitoring.

The new AI edge solutions will be available through Avnet’s IoTConnect platform, which debuted at Embedded World earlier this year.

Customers can also subscribe to Macso’s pre-built models and use them immediately without extensive training.
