Can Tesla’s Cybertruck also be used as a boat? According to Elon Musk, it sure can.

Just ahead of his company’s AI Day Sept. 30, Musk tweeted that the vehicle will have the capability to “serve briefly as a boat.”

“Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes and even seas that aren’t too choppy,” he said.

He also said it needs to be able to “get from Starbase to South Padre Island, which requires crossing the channel.”

There’s widespread anticipation for Tesla’s electric pickup truck initially announced in 2019.

Tesla has confirmed it will be built at its Gigafactory in Texas. Specifications on the company’s website say it will be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, will have a range of up to 500 miles, a payload capacity of 2,500 pounds and will include 100 cubic feet of exterior, lockable storage and have a towing capacity of more than 14,000 pounds.

Tesla stopped taking orders outside of the U.S.  with Musk saying the company has more orders for the first Cybertrucks than it could “possibly fulfill for three years after the start of production.”

In June Tesla confirmed it will be using the world’s largest casting machine, known as Giga Press, for Cybertruck production.

The Tesla Cybertruck is slated for production in 2023.
