Siemens acquires Brightly

Siemens Acquires Software Company for $1.6B

The purchase is expected to accelerate Siemens’ growth in digital building operations

  • 27th June 2022

Siemens Infrastructure has acquired Brightly Software for $1.6 billion. The acquisition of the software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider of asset and maintenance management solutions is intended to help elevate Siemens’ position in the software market for building and infrastructure. Brightly’s asset management software is used by schools, governments, hospitals and manufacturers worldwide.

While Brightly expects to benefit from Siemens’ global presence, Siemens plans to leverage Brightly’s U.S. footprint. The sale, subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to close by the end of the year.

Siemens intends to add Brightly’s cloud-based capabilities across key sectors as it joins the company’s portfolio of technologies that power smart cities and sustainable communities. The purchase is expected to accelerate Siemens’ SaaS business.

Roland Busch, Siemens AG president and CEO, called the deal another important step in the company’s strategy as a focused technology company.

“By combining the real and digital worlds, we provide our customers with the technology required to drive their digital transformation to create the most sustainable and human-centric buildings,” he said. “Today’s acquisition bolsters our growth targets, especially for digital revenue and software as a service.”

Matthias Rebellius, member of Siemens AG managing board and CEO of smart infrastructure CEO said the Brightly purchase would enable the company to “leapfrog to the next level of performance for buildings” with a seamless data exchange between its offerings.

“The acquisition will speed up our target of becoming a leading software company also in infrastructure and support our vision of creating fully autonomous buildings that continuously learn from and adapt to the needs of their tenants,” he said.
