PTC Inks $280M Deal With Intland Software to Boost ALM Offerings

The news comes as PTC expands its business to bring its PLM software to a wider range of customers

Boston-based PTC announced it will acquire Germany’s Intland Software, in a $280 million deal that will reportedly harness Intland’s Codebeamer Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) portfolio to help customers integrate software systems into their products.

The deal is anticipated to close in PTC’s fiscal third quarter.

“This acquisition will complement our strengths in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and model-based systems engineering as part of our Digital Thread portfolio strategy,” said Jim Heppelmann, president and CEO of PTC. “The addition of Codebeamer will broaden and deepen our ALM portfolio and enable us to further support our customers’ efforts to incorporate sophisticated software systems into their products.”

Intland’s pipeline of ALM services are currently used across a range of industries, including automotive, life sciences, consumer electronics and aerospace.

Codebeamer’s pre-built templates and partner integrations create a more user-friendly means of understanding and meeting requirements common in regulated industries, providing customers with requirement, risk and test management capabilities while supporting agile software development and integrating with DevOps and source code management tools. PTC plans to offer Codebeamer both as a stand-alone system and in conjunction with its Windchill and Arena PLM solutions.

“The entire Intland team is proud of the success we have had developing and delivering a modern ALM offering that has been widely accepted in the market,” said Janos Koppany, CEO of Intland Software. “Our Codebeamer offerings are a perfect complement to PTC’s portfolio of product development solutions.”

The news comes in the same week as PTC launched its Windchill product lifecycle management software, a novel SaaS that enables product development customers to accelerate product development and commercialization. Additionally, this week PTC announced the expansion of its 20-year alliance with ITC Infotech, with the groups combining their PLM professional service experts to create a new business unit, dubbed DxP Services, to help accelerate customers’ SaaS adoption.

“ITC Infotech shares a common goal with our partner PTC – to enable customers to embrace SaaS as a cornerstone of their digital transformation strategies,” said Sudip Singh, CEO of ITC Infotech. “The creation of DxP Services will take our relationship to a whole new level and will enable PTC customers to transform the way they adopt technology in the distributed, secure, and agile workplace of the future.”
