Though it has not started yet, the annual CES 2022 in Las Vegas is being closed one day early, according to the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which runs the show.

The step was taken as an additional safety measure around the latest variant of the coronavirus.

More than 2,100 exhibitors are still scheduled to participate in CES 2022 in person. In the last two weeks, 200 exhibitors backed out of the physical CES while 143 were added, according to the CTA.

CES officially opens Wednesday and now will run through Friday rather than Saturday.

The Media Days, where new products are previewed in advance for journalists from around the world, runs for two days before the opening of CES 2022.

Attending journalists are being given COVID-19 test kits when they receive their credentials, with tests being recommended before entering any venue as well as before leaving Las Vegas at the end of the show.

The CTA is also providing virtual content, including some livestreamed conference sessions.

Prior to the global pandemic, CES would typically draw about 200,000 attendees to the show.
