IoT World Today Commits to Greater Diversity in 2020
All those who work at IoT World Today believe that black lives matter.
We stand with those identifying social inequities and systemic racism and we believe that the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Trayvon Martin and others matter and should shape our actions going forward.
At IoT World Today, we research and report on the Internet of Things because we believe that digitization, data, mobility and other key technologies will improve human life. We also know that IoT data requires diversity. Without a large pool of diverse data, algorithms suffer from bias, improper sampling and poor decision making. We also know that for technology to have a positive impact, developments must be applied with an eye toward social and economic inequity.
In our enterprises, in the boardroom, on our staffs and around the globe, we need this diversity of perspective to promote solid decision making.
That’s why at IoT World Today, we are committing to several operational changes that we believe will promote greater diversity of perspective, demonstrate support for Black Lives Matter and other groups that have historically been marginalized in our industry and beyond:
- We will create an editorial board that encompasses diverse perspectives and looks at technology through multiple lenses, including its role in organizations’ modernization and its impact on public policy and civil society.
- We are always focused on users, but we would like to spend more time focusing on small and medium-sized businesses as well as minority-owned businesses. How have the events of 2020 changed adoption plans and priorities? We will launch a program to feature these stories to better understand technology adoption in the wake of the disruptive events of 2020.
- Work toward creating a pipeline of diverse hires at IoT World Today.
