IoT Implementation Research: Stepping Toward Maturity
IoT pilot purgatory is a legitimate condition that some companies find themselves in. But it looks like those numbers are going down, judging by the results of our second annual study on IoT implementation practices, as more and more practitioners are learning from mistakes and finding success in their IoT projects. In fact, we may look back on the past year or so as a time when the type, scale and success of IoT projects exploded.
Our survey incorporates feedback from 670 people about their companies’ IoT efforts. We segmented respondents into four basic groups: those whose companies had already deployed production-scale IoT projects; those whose companies were actively testing IoT projects; those whose companies were actively researching IoT; and those whose companies hadn’t yet taken action around IoT. We asked a range of questions that reveal the number of projects, the use cases for those projects, length of projects, success of projects, stakeholders involved, challenges, benefits, platforms, factors impacting project success, IoT spending plans, IoT implementation deterrents and more. In addition, we sliced the data according to company size, those who reported excellent results (to see what lessons we could learn from their wins) and those in the manufacturing sector.
We hope you use this report as a tool in planning your own IoT projects.
