Kevin Ashton may not speak constantly of the Internet of Things but he came up with the term way back in 1999. He continues to offer a vision of where the IoT is headed, while also commenting on how the implementation of the technology differs from his initial predictions regarding the technology.

2. Chris Anderson

The British-American author and entrepreneur is now the CEO of drone maker 3D robotics. Anderson was the former editor-in-chief at Wired magazine and had worked at the Economist before that.

3. Rowan Trollope

Cisco’s senior vice president leads the company’s IoT division as well as its collaboration group, its analytics and automation division, and its Devnet developer platform division.

4. Brenna Berman

Chicago’s Chief Innovation Officer is overseeing one of the most aggressive smart cities initiatives in North America—the Array of Things. The project will collect real-time data on everything from the environment to traffic levels. City officials see the project as being a “fitness tracker” for the city.

Brian is a veteran journalist with more than ten years’ experience covering an array of technologies including the Internet of Things, 3-D printing, and cybersecurity. Before coming to Penton and later Informa, he served as the editor-in-chief of UBM’s Qmed where he overhauled the brand’s news coverage and helped to grow the site’s traffic volume dramatically. He had previously held managing editor roles on the company’s medical device technology publications including European Medical Device Technology (EMDT) and Medical Device & Diagnostics Industry (MD+DI), and had served as editor-in-chief of Medical Product Manufacturing News (MPMN).
